Garden Maintenance & Care

Gardens that get better with time

In the first year, the plants settle in. By year three, they start to fill out. By year ten, they look like they’ve always been there.

But getting from planting to established takes the right care, applied at the right moments.

We know what your garden needs and when. Because we planted it.

Maintenance for Native Gardens

Native gardens play by different rules. Prune a Banksia wrong, no flowers next year. Feed natives like exotics, you'll burn their roots.

We stay on after planting because we know these rules. Which species need tip pruning in August. Which ones resent any pruning at all. When to let leaf litter build up (habitat) and when to clear it (fire risk).

Our Maintenance Approach

The first months are critical. We monitor water needs – some natives want a drink while establishing, then nothing. We watch for signs of stress. Adjust mulch levels. Make sure your investment is thriving, not just surviving.

Establishment Phase

Autumn – Plant health check before winter. Structural pruning on established plants. Mulch top-up where needed.

Winter – Best pruning window for most natives. Westringia shaped. Grasses cut back. Planning for spring growth.

Spring – Tip pruning for bushiness. Deadheading for extended flowering. Watch for pest issues as growth accelerates.

Summer – Minimal intervention. Monitor water stress. Enjoy the birds.
