Some places have a natural ease.
The light falls just right.
The landscape makes sense.
You know it when you’re in one.

That’s genius loci – the spirit of place. It’s why your favourite bush track feels right. Why some gardens invite you to pause, to look closer. Why certain outdoor spaces feel grounded, even before a plant goes in.

We’re Loci Landscapes. We create native gardens that belong to Tasmania—designed for the land, built to last.

The Dirt on Loci

Two Mates, One Mission, Muddy Boots.

Jethro is a landscape designer based in Southern Tasmania, renowned for his ability to capture the breathtaking natural beauty of his surroundings. With a deep appreciation for the rich landscapes, flora, and fauna of Tasmania, Jethro’s work reflects a profound connection to the environment. Having studied and worked both interstate and internationally through his twenties, he honed his skills before returning to Tasmania.

When he is not at the drafting table, you will find him onsite pointing, changing things, and generally getting in the way.

Tim led a landscape design + construction firm in Sydney’s eastern suburbs for six years before relocating to Tasmania with his wife and young family in 2020. With a couple of false starts in construction, Tim sought to get back into what he loved doing – Landscaping.

One Spring day, Tim called; it was uncanny timing for Jethro and the growing business. An opportunity presented in the form of a genuine, capable guy who could talk about a blue streak.

A temporary team-member offer quickly blossomed into a business partnership- allowing each to thrive at what they do best

Together, they've grown Loci into Tasmania's go-to for native garden design, construction, and care.

Why We're Different (And Why That Matters to You)

Most landscapers do a bit of everything. We only want to do native Tasmanian gardens. That focus means we know which species thrive in Clifton Beach salt spray versus South Hobart’s shady slopes. With passionate horticulturalists on our team, we understand these plants from seed to maturity.

We’re Tasmania’s native garden specialists – the only team offering complete premium landscape design, construction, project management, and ongoing maintenance under one roof. This means we handle everything: initial site analysis, concept development, 3D visualisation so you can see your garden before we build it, all construction and installation, then seasonal maintenance to keep it thriving. No juggling contractors. No lost-in-translation moments. When something needs adjusting three years later, we know your garden’s history.

The business Jethro seeded is now a thriving warehouse, design studio, fleet of branded utes, and a team that’s 50% women (in an industry where that’s unheard of). Two apprentices have won Apprentice of the Year.

We show up when we say we will. And we answer our phone calls.

Why Native Gardens Matter (And Why We Won't Build Anything Else)

Gardens aren’t fixed; they change with you, with the seasons, and with the land around them. Native gardens don’t resist this because they’re built for it.

We consider the whole picture: neighbouring bushland, existing trees, local fauna. These aren’t isolated spaces. Every native garden we build becomes part of a wider network—habitat, corridor, and seed bank. It’s a small, steady investment in Tasmania’s ecological future.

Some think “native” means messy or limited. They haven't seen what we can do with Tasmania's incredible palette - architectural banksias, silver poas catching winter light, burgundy pepperberry, grasses that dance like water.

Native doesn't mean sacrificing beauty. It means beauty that lasts.

The Culture Behind the Gardens

This is more than a business. We design gardens with a long view—spaces that reflect Tasmania’s landscape, not borrow from somewhere else. Our focus is native, our knowledge is specific, and our commitment is to what belongs here.
