A Coastal Garden Reclaimed.
When land is cleared for development, its natural values are too often stripped away with it. Scalped back to bare earth, wiped of everything that made it its own.
Our brief was to return this coastal site to something closer to what it once was. A native garden where the client could move through the seasons, noticing the slow shifts and the softening edges where garden meets borrowed landscape. Compact coastal forms and soil-stabilising native grasses do the quiet work here, moving with the wind and easing the transition between path and planting.
When we discovered a colony of the rare and threatened New Holland Daisy on the neighbouring block nearing demolition, we collected seed and propagated, returning it to the garden to set seed and spread as the seasons turn.
The coastal views are framed, not competed with. Space is left to daydream, to watch the sea eagles pass overhead, to listen for the whales that return year after year. A garden that pays homage to its surroundings and gives the land back to itself.
In July 2024 we contacted Tim from Loci Landscapes in order to commission a significant landscaping project. We set up an onsite meeting with Tim, Jethro and Bethany to discuss the scope of the project. We were after a uniquely Tasmanian coastal garden featuring endemic plants. When we met in their studio for the concept reveal, to say we were blown away is a massive understatement. In January 2025 the team began to transform our block into a masterpiece. The team were a delight to have onsite and we missed them when the works were completed eight weeks later. A year on the garden is thriving and a joy to be in. If you’re looking for the A Team in landscaping in Tasmania, you’ve found them. We highly recommend Tim, Jethro and the entire Loci Landscapes team.
