Designing with the bush, not against it.
Tucked within a tall eucalyptus forest above the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, this garden began with a conversation and a shift in perspective. Our clients arrived with a vision quite different from what the land was offering. Through careful observation of what was already present, the design direction became clear: the property’s greatest strengths were the ones it already possessed.
Endemic orchids emerge through the understorey across the seasons. Wildlife moves through constantly, flying, crawling, bounding past kitchen windows, investigating the custom habitat structures positioned close to the house. Rather than clearing this richness away, the design works to honour and extend it. A resilient native planting buffer and considered breaks in the vegetation allow the garden to dissolve into the borrowed bushland landscape, reducing fire risk while actively drawing wildlife in.
Living within the bush asks something of its inhabitants, an attentiveness, a willingness to adapt. With thoughtful design and an understanding of the land’s rhythms, that relationship becomes less a series of challenges to manage and more a way of being that most of us, quietly, are searching for.
An absolute pleasure to recommend Loci Landscapes. From design to completion, Jethro and the team delivered on everything as promised and more. All this was achieved in a timely, professional, reliable, cost effective and innovative manner. Most importantly, they embrace using native plants which are suited to our natural environment, wildlife and changing climate.
