Small Garden, Big Personality.
Left to the weeds for years after it was built, this garden needed reclaiming. The young couple wanted to be drawn outside — somewhere private, calm and cared for, without the neighbours closing in or the chaos of an overgrown space pulling focus.
This small native garden design in Kingston does the quiet work of making a neglected block feel intentional. Native screening and hardworking species establish quickly and largely look after themselves, freeing the garden up to simply be enjoyed. A locally made hot tub sits at the centre of it all, a place to decompress surrounded by colour and movement.
Off-centre angles and considered geometry open the space up, creating interest and a sense of scale that belies the block size. The front garden has since become a regular stop for the neighbourhood’s marsupials, who browse the resilient flowering natives that grow only denser and more vibrant under their gentle attention. The pollinators followed. The weeds did not come back.
I cannot tell you how overjoyed we are with our new outdoor space. From our first consult with them, we knew we were on the right path because they had a crystal-clear vision of what could be done in our small space. Loci was able to create magic from a blank slate using their experience, expertise & skill. Everything was orchestrated perfectly & we were always kept in the loop with budget & progress. We love their use of local natives (which are already attracting birds, bees & butterflies) & organic shapes. We also really appreciated thoughtful touches in bespoke items like firewood storage / a water bowl & always being mindful of what we wanted from the space. The management of the project from start to finish was simply stellar – we missed having them around after the 6 weeks! All in all, a wonderful experience & a wonderful result. I can’t recommend Loci highly enough.
